Courses offered in the math department may include Consumer Mathematics, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, Geometry, Pre-calculus/Trigonometry, and AP Calculus. Each course is a challenging and sequential offering designed to develop the aptitude and analytical background of each pupil. Geometry is flexible in the sequence and offers a visual and conceptual view of mathematics. Students are offered the option of taking Algebra I in the 8th grade to complete the curriculum with Calculus as a senior. Honors courses are offered in some levels.
Rosemary Sahloul, Math Department Chair
Mrs. Sahloul joined Universal School in the year 2000, after serving 12 years as a middle and high school math teacher at Aqsa School. She graduated from the University of Illinois in May 1988 with High Honors, received a Bachelor’s in Mathematics Education, and is certified in the State of Illinois, to teach grades 6-12. Mrs. Sahloul served as Head Dean of Students for two years and currently is teaching AP Calculus.
Mrs. Alharithi joined Universal School in 2012. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Jordan and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision with honors from Lincoln Memorial University in TN. She is also certified to teach elementary and 7-12 science/chemistry.
Mrs. Hamayel joined Universal School in 2001. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Birziet University in Palestine. She obtained her Illinois certification in teaching math and physics from Trinity Christian College. Mrs. Hamayel has six years of working experience in the weekend school. Mrs. Hamayel did her student teaching at Universal School prior to becoming part of our full time staff. She is currently teaching advanced placement Physics, as well as other Math and Science courses.
Mrs. Mahairi worked at Universal School in 2004 for two years and rejoined in 2009. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education with distinction from the University of Michigan in 2001. Mrs. Mahairi worked at Islamic Foundation prior to joining Universal School. She is certified by the State of Illinois
Mrs. Syed joined Universal School in 1996. She graduated from the University of Alberta in Canada in secondary education (BED), with a bachelor's of science degree (BSC), and a bachelor's degree in biological science and physical science. Mrs. Syed is certified by the State of Illinois. Mrs. Syed has teaching experience in Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry and Math.
